Machine Learning Architect

Start-up seeks extremely talented programmers and machine learning engineers to help pioneer applied robotic intelligence. You must have experience designing and building deep and complex (yet adaptable) systems, and you should be able to do so in about one-third the time that most competent people think possible. You must have experience in deep learning and neural networks, having completed real-world fault tolerant projects. Familiarity with the bionics approach and wireless networking would be helpful for this position.


Expect talented, motivated, intense, and interesting co-workers. Must be willing to report or relocate to the Phoenix area.


  • Develop highly reliable autonomous software systems

  • Design and implement fault detection and mitigation in software

  • Develop prototypes to prove out key design concepts and quantify technical constraints

  • Create analysis tools, applications, and execution pipelines that allow agents to be flown quickly, reliably, and robustly for the analysis team

  • Review existing tools and processes and drive more efficient or more reliable approaches


  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related discipline

  • 2+ years of experience in software development

  • 2+ years of experience in C++ or Python/Python-based development frameworks

  • Demonstrative professional, educational, or independent project in deep learning


  • Strong competency in software development practices including testing and continuous integration

  • Working knowledge of control theory

  • Experience designing fault tolerant software

  • Thorough knowledge of computer architecture and wireless networks

  • Experience building several types of neural networks, including modular types

  • Strong skills in debugging, performance optimization and unit testing

  • Professional experience with other programming languages such as Java, JavaScript, Go, and MATLAB

  • Deep understanding of object oriented programming

  • Experience with high performance computing systems or large scale data analysis systems

  • Deep understanding of one or more modern persistency systems

  • Experience with cloud technologies such as AWS or Azure

  • Great creative and innovative problem-solving skills

  • Operations experience on a complex system that has high consequences in the event of failure

  • Passion for advancing the manufacturing industry, in all aspects

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, autonomously driven, and demanding start-up atmosphere


  • Must be available to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed to support critical milestones or operations shifts.
