Principal Machine Learning Engineer

Start-up seeks an extremely talented machine learning engineer to help pioneer applied robotic intelligence. You must have experience designing and building deep and complex (yet adaptable) systems, and you should be able to do so in about one-third the time that most competent people think possible. You must have experience in project management, leading programmers and software engineers to meet deliverables. Familiarity with the bionics approach and wireless networking would be helpful for this position.

  • Develop highly reliable autonomous software systems

  • Design and lead development of new software projects

  • Design and implement fault detection and mitigation in software

  • Develop prototypes to prove out key design concepts and quantify technical constraints

  • Own all aspects of software development, including design, testing, and project integration

  • Provide strong technical leadership, focus on continuous improvement

  • Create analysis tools, applications, and execution pipelines that allow agents to be flown quickly, reliably, and robustly for the analysis team

  • Review existing tools and processes and drive more efficient or more reliable approaches


  • Master's degree in computer science or a related discipline

  • 4+ years of experience in software development

  • 2+ years of experience in C++ or Python/Python-based development frameworks


  • Strong competency in software development practices including testing and continuous integration

  • Working knowledge of control theory

  • Experience designing fault tolerant software

  • Thorough knowledge of computer architecture and wireless networks

  • Experience building several types of neural networks, including modular types

  • Strong skills in debugging, performance optimization and unit testing

  • Professional experience as an architect - proven ability to design and implement robust systems with flexible and scalable characteristics to meet future needs

  • Experience working directly on engineering or scientific computing problems

  • Professional experience with other programming languages such as Java, JavaScript, Go, and MATLAB

  • Professional experience with standard front-end technologies like modern HTML, CSS, JavaScript, REST, JSON

  • Deep understanding of object oriented programming

  • Experience with high performance computing systems or large scale data analysis systems

  • Deep understanding of one or more modern persistency systems

  • Experience with cloud technologies such as AWS or Azure

  • Experience with robotics or mechatronics

  • Focus on performance bottlenecks and performance improvement techniques

  • Great creative and innovative problem-solving skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with direct experience negotiating technical deliverables or scope

  • Real-time operations experience on a complex system that has high consequences in the event of failure

  • Experience working in relation to government or defense entities

  • Passion for advancing the manufacturing industry, in all aspects

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, autonomously driven, and demanding start-up atmosphere


  • Active Top Secret or Top Secret SCI clearance preferred. Must be willing to pursue a clearance if not already cleared. Note that an active clearance may provide the opportunity for you to work on sensitive Rosotics projects. If so, you will be subject to pre-employment drug and random drug and alcohol testing.

  • Must be available to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed to support critical milestones or operations shifts.

  • Must be willing to travel to other Rosotics offices and customer locations as needed.
